THE HISTORY OF VITRA
The history of Vitra began in 1950, when the Fehlbaum family established the company’s first factory in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Not even three years later, comes the first turning point, which already hints at how human relationships will be a key juncture in Vitra’s history: during a trip to the United States, founder Willi Fehlbaum stumbles upon the chairs conceived by the designer couple Charles and Ray Eames, whom he will later meet in person, forging a fruitful collaborative relationship with them.
Thus began a period of great momentum for the company, which introduced to the market some of its most iconic items, destined to remain relevant as the decades passed.
The beginning of this journey saw Vitra gradually grow and develop the philosophy that would accompany it later into the new millennium, characterized by a meticulous production process that is attended to at every stage and enhanced by the creative freedom the company leaves to its employees, who are encouraged to inculcate their own vision within the product that will be born.
