Chairs, armchairs, tables and sofas by Rodolfo Dordoni: here are his most celebrated creations
Rodolfo Dordoni a Milanese architect and designer who is among the most loved and appreciated by the public, is one of the prominent personalities who has made Milan so famous for the art of design.
A 1979 graduate of the Politecnico, Rodolfo Dordoni with design in the residential field has managed to create a true language of harmony, elegance and simplicity.
Throughout his career, Dordoni has collaborated with some of the most celebrated design brands, even becoming an art director. His imagination has led him to experiment in the most diverse types of interior design: lamps, furniture, bathroom and kitchen accessories, carpets, and even electrical outlets. Every object in a house became an endless source of inspiration for his imagination.
Here is a brief review of his most famous design creations: works of art that revolutionized the world of design, leaving the name of its creator an obligatory passage in this field.
One of Dordoni’s most important collaborations was with Molteni&C. A collaboration that has gone beyond the creation of individual products to entire collections.
“Today the single object is surpassed by the concept of a collection, which defines an atmosphere, a style, an environment in which to feel comfortable.”
It is with the guidance of this maxim that Dordoni creates some of his best pieces for Molteni.
For example, the Filigree table: a series of extendable tables characterized by the sinuous shape of the aluminum leg. The technology employed, studied by the designer, makes it possible to have an extendable table with a top without cuts and with an extension containment structure of only 38 mm. Filigree thus becomes one of Rodolfo Dordoni ‘s pivotal products : a simple-looking design with discreet, cutting-edge technology.
Like each of his creations, rich in imagination and personality is also the Who chair. A solid wood frame enhanced by fine details and a leather-covered seat.
Continuing with seating, we move on to the Chelsea armchair, one of the achievements of the collection of the same name. Chelsea, designed in 2014, sums up in its lines the innovativeness of contemporary design and at the same time the exquisite continuity of tradition. Wide backrests, armrests and an ottoman complete this seat making it perfect for moments of genuine relaxation.
Also designed for Molteni was the Kensington collection. An ergonomically designed armchair with wide armrests and an all-foam shell. Kensington is designed with both a high and low back: ideal for moments of conversation to share with guests and friends.
Having become art director for Minotti in 1997, Dordoni, during his art direction years, created excellent seating for this brand.
Freeman, the sofa by Rodolfo Dordoni, is more than just a seat: it is a true living space design. Featuring numerous customizable elements (such as backrests and chaise longue), Freeman in its various versions is undoubtedly the star of the living room with its cozy seating that invites total abandon.
As the importance of outdoor design has increased, Dordoni has created collections consisting of elegant outdoor seating for various brands. These creations are composed of simple, essential lines and very durable materials to ensure good product durability.
For Minotti, added to the historic Aston seating collection, the Aston-cord chair was designed. Aston-cord for outdoor use consists of a painted metal frame and a woven polypropylene seat. Wrap-around back and upholstered seat-these are the features of the Aston chair, created to provide comfort and relaxation for all your convivial moments.
Continuing with outdoor seating inventions, Dordoni also designed two iconic products for Roda. Rodolfo Dordoni’s outdoor sofa is the Mistral model, characterized by a soft seat and a shell with a minimal structure. With its delicate presence, Mistral is the ideal piece of furniture for metropolitan exteriors such as balconies or terraces.
Like Mistral, the Dandy sofa, also designed for Roda, is designed for outdoor environments thanks to its technological padding and totally draining, weather-resistant upholstery.
Another key collaboration in Dordoni’s journey is with Cassina, for whom the designer created the iconic Boboli table in 2007.
Boboli is a perfect example of combining geometric rigor with imaginative structures. In this table, a thin, traditional top is combined with a frame consisting of twisted slats that embellish the entire table, giving it a sculptural appearance.
