Reminder furniture: an atelier of beauty

An excellence of made-in-Italy craftsmanship that has spread from Lake Como to all the world’s largest cities. Quality and extreme attention to detail: these are the secrets with which a small artisanal enterprise conquers the international market

Promemoria is afurniture company that has become a true gem of Italian craftsmanship. Begun in 1992 with the historic Milan showroom on Via Montenapoleone, it has been opening in recent years to an increasingly international perspective with showrooms in Paris, London, Moscow and finally New York since 2011.

Secret of this enterprise is to make Italian craftsmanship know-how a ritual to be passed from generation to generation. From this very “oral transmission” of knowledge comes the name of the company, masterfully run by the Sozzi family: the father, founder, and his three sons.

Promemoria’s furniture is appreciated, both in Italy and abroad, for its particular allure that shows an unusual point of contact between craft and industrial, between serial and unrepeatable, between rigor and flexibility, rule and exception.

More than a company, Promemoria likes to call itself an “atelier of beauty,” an epithet that fits like a glove if you take a look at their achievements around the world-Russia, Beijing, Austria, France, Korea, Hungary-Specializing in both private residences and public places, Promemoria succeeds in creating custom-finished furnishings for any space.

Some of the most luxurious products in Promemoria’s special collections have been signed in collaboration with great artists: such as the Panama Bronze series of armchairs created by the union of Romeo Sozzi’s design and the art of Mattia Biagi, famous for his use of tar in his artwork.

The Panama armchair, designed by Sozzi, is entirely covered with tar by the artist and finished by artisans through bronze casting, creating a unique limited-edition design piece.

Another example is the Capsule Collection created in collaboration with Bruno Moinard, whose artistic language is distinguished by a minimalism veined with color, a sobriety devoid of austerity, and a sense of timeless elegance that led to the dialogue with Promemoria.

For Promemoria Moinard signed a furniture collection that includes: lamps, console table, table and sofa. All this furniture is imbued with an oriental atmosphere, characterized by graphic lines and strong colors, warm tones and sensual shapes.

“My vocabulary,” says Bruno Moinard, “married without difficulty to the codes and philosophy that Romeo Sozzi has always interpreted: the search for the essential, the generosity of forms, the use of sophisticated materials and the primacy of detail so that haute couture quality is present in every product. It is a collection that results from the dialogue and common vision of two creators who share a sense of the timelessness of creation and a love for art craftsmanship.”

It is precisely this passion for detail and love of craftsmanship that has always characterized the now storied work done by Sozzi & C. In fact, this family’s history of craftsmanship has roots much older than the Promemoria brand.

Their craft history begins in the late 19th century in a village on Lake Como where the Sozzi family opened a workshop to refurbish and repair the carriages of the local aristocracy. From this small business, within four generations, a production activity is carried out that encompasses all stages of processing: from the search for the finest materials to the study of finishing.

The use of exclusive materials has always characterized the production of the Sozzi family: Tuscan cypress, macassar ebony, silk, cashmere, bronze, silver, Murano glass, and made-in-Italy porcelain are just some of the materials used for the wide range of Promemoria products.

Some of the Maison’s most popular latest furniture are:

Alchemical her/him,  an elegant two-door cabinet made of natural amaranth with smooth medium bronze handle and hinges. Interior accessorized with drawers, doors and leather-covered pull-out top. Contained within the closet is an adjustable backlit mirror, an LED lighting system, and a pouf with a leather upholstery.
