In just over 50 years of life,
Kettal
, a company founded in the 1960s by Manuel Alorda, has managed to establish itself as one of the most renowned and appreciated international players in the indoor furniture industry.
A path of great success that is due above all to the mission to which the Spanish house has always remained faithful over time: to produce designer outdoor furniture that would combine aesthetics, inevitably linked to the beauty of outdoor living that is intrinsic to Mediterranean countries, with values such as functionality and durability of products, designed to withstand even when exposed to a variety of climatic conditions throughout the year.
To achieve this goal, Kettal has relied on constant technical research, crucial to discovering and enhancing the materials used, and collaboration with some world-class names in the design world, such as Patricia Urquiola, Doshi Levien, and Rodolfo Dordoni.
KETTAL CALA : DOSHI LEVIEN BETWEEN CONCEPT AND INSPIRATION
Behind the concept for Kettal’s Cala armchair, conceived by the Doshi Levien studio founded by designers Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, now linked by a fruitful partnership with the Spanish company, is the historic Emmanuelle garden chair, which provided the pair with the inspiration to create a collection that first and foremost offers a wide range of possibilities for furnishing one’s outdoor space.
In fact, the armchairs in the Cala collection allow you to play with backrests available in various heights and one-, two- or even three-seat solutions that can be combined with the small tables belonging to the same line. Regardless, however, of the characteristics of the piece chosen, Cala lends a unique style to verandas and gardens through its woven rope weave, which is capable at the same time of providing privacy and keeping open small visual windows that create a connection with the surrounding greenery.
OUTDOOR KETTAL THE MOST POPULAR DESIGNS
The prestigious signatures that have partnered with Kettal over the years, combined with extensive research into both the aesthetics of the products and the materials used, have enabled the company to become known for its quality worldwide, thanks in part to some designs that have become iconic.
This is the case, for example, with the Maia collection designed as far back as 2005 by Patricia Urquiola, which is able to combine within individual pieces a material such as aluminum, synonymous with solidity and strength, with a fine play of handcrafted weaves.
Other opposites, namely strength and lightness, coexist in the historic Park Life collection, the first outdoor collection designed by Jasper Morrison that includes everything you need to relax outdoors, namely chairs, tables, armchairs, coffee tables, and even deck chairs.
Instead, it is the nautical sphere that provided the inspiration for Rodolfo Dordoni’s Bitta, a series that includes not only the iconic club chairs but also rockers, loungers and stools, almost all of which feature polyester rope weaves reminiscent of those used to tie boat mooring lines to bollards found in harbors.
More recently, Kettal has enjoyed great success with its Band collection, launched in 2020 and designed again by Patricia Urquiola, capable of imagining a family of outdoor seating obtained through an assembly of the different structural elements.
Not only chairs and armchairs, however.
: with the collaboration of Doshi Levien, Kettal also came up with the Bela Lamp collection, consisting of colorful lamps whose design is reminiscent of the hand-woven lanterns that belong to the Indian tradition.
