CASA MAGENTA: A SAG’80 PROJECT IN COLLABORATION WITH DOME MILANO

Casa Magenta was born from the collaboration between SAG’80 and Dome Milano Studio., a luxury apartment in the heart of Milan, capable of blending in total harmony in a context as rich in history and tradition as Sant’Ambrogio.

Just a stone’s throw from the splendid Basilica, one of the city’s oldest churches, a large doorway provides access to a private courtyard from which one then arrives, via a majestic stairwell, to the apartment that Dome Milano has been able to make modern while respecting its past.

Casa Magenta, an Innovative Design in a Historic Context

Located on the second floor, Casa Magenta is a space of about 80 square meters that the Milan-based architectural firm has renovated and enhanced through functional and aesthetic solutions aimed at making the most of the available space.

Architect Rachele Pellegatta was in charge of the project, while the furniture elements were provided by SAG’80, which has been working with the best Italian and international design furniture brands for more than 40 years, providing its clients with tailor-made solutions.

By visiting Casa Magenta, you can realize how architecture and interior design can work together to transform living spaces on an aesthetic and functional level, yet preserve their original soul.

An elegant fusion of past and modernity in Milan

Fusing past and modernity was probably the main challenge accepted by SAG’80 and Dome Milano with the Casa Magenta renovation.

In such an exceptional context as the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and the private courtyard that precedes the flat, modernity had to be discreetly embedded, so as not to create a contrast that would clash with the history of one of Milan’s most emblematic places.

Under the guidance of architect Rachele Pellegatta, Dome Milano carried out a skillful restyling that, without disrupting the classical references present, transported the apartment into the contemporary.

The architectural constraints present, rather than limitations, became a stimulus to devise new solutions that could enhance the spaces starting with the painstaking study of certain pivotal interior elements.

For example, the renovation project could not fail to consider the presence of three large openings, which are crucial for the intake of natural light, as well as the characteristics of some pre-existing materials, punctually recovered to create a trait d’union between the past and modernity.

Room Design at Casa Magenta

Which are the rooms in the Casa Magenta where Dome Milano, in collaboration with SAG’80, has intervened most consistently?

Entrance and bathrooms

From the entrance area, where a console table by Ivano Redaelli has been placed, there is direct access to the bathroom area, which has been redesigned through the application of a uniform pattern of marble grits signed by Mipa Design on both the floor and the wall.

Kitchens

For the kitchen, SAG’80 supplied Arclinea’s Convivium model, composed of lacquered gray modules that can fit perfectly into the available space, offering a balanced mix of luxury and functionality.

Materials and colors are another important aspect of the Milan Dome renovation project.

The great protagonist is undoubtedly wood, the main inspiration of the project’s moodboard: soft color choices, with shades that ranged from white to light gray, were combined with more luxurious textures with a classic taste, given for example by the veining of Carrara marble or wallpaper recalling a library in the case of the two bedrooms.

The Bedrooms and Living Area

Among the furniture items chosen by SAG’80 that embellish the sleeping area are the beds by Ivano Redaelli, while the sofa and table designed by Meridiani, as well as the Febo chairs by Maxalto, make up the selection for the living area.

Other standout pieces in Casa Magenta’s selection of furnishings include the custom-made marble fireplace and wood paneling, the Penta Light branded lighting system or even the suspended desk by Porro, the perfect synthesis of elegance and functionality.

Casa Magenta is a unique project of its kind

More than the individual elements, it is the harmony of the whole and its ability to fit into an exclusive historical context that makes Casa Magenta a unique project of its kind.

This remarkable achievement was made possible by SAG’80’s expertise, honed over more than 40 years, which enables them to consistently find the best solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

Additionally, Dome Milano Studio’s proficiency in executing modern architectural interventions, even within environments with significant architectural and structural constraints, was essential.

Travel between the past and modernity

After a stroll through one of Milan’s most elegant neighborhoods, with a view of the magnificent Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio, a visit to Casa Magenta will allow you to travel between the past and modernity in just a few moments, demonstrating how even contemporary architecture can transform environments while still respecting their history.
