B&B sofas: top-of-the-line proposals for relaxation
Two- or multi-seater, L-shaped or corner sofas capable of guaranteeing full relaxation: these are just some of the proposals of B&B Italia’s modern sofas, which are flanked by fabric sofas in the most distinctive nuances from soft to lively. But that’s not all: there is also room for a more classic proposal, such as that suggested by leather sofas. Whatever the case, comfort, quality and style are assured.
Quality materials and design are the first steps to take to really choose the right sofa for your home. It is the design that defines the style that then comes to life in the shapes that can be, as mentioned, two- or three-seater, corner with peninsula or in-line, leather and classic or modern fabric.
High quality is the goal to strive for. And it is the challenge, won, of
B&B Italia
which is a synonym and guarantee of high-end products and excellence of Made in Italy where the aesthetic value, maximum comfort and long life of the sofas over time, both in the obvious components but especially in the most hidden details, is a constant of the achievements.
Different proposals for different styles, times and needs. All in the horizon of relaxation, of aesthetic sophistication that is linked to functionality.
Camaleonda, infinite freedom of compositions
Camaleonda is the reissue in 2020 of a great classic designed by Mario Bellini and launched by B&B Italia in 1970. In its new guise, however, this sofa retains all the features that have made it a timeless contemporary design classic. The seat has remained in line with that of the original 90×90 cm design as well as the back and armrest, and the padding that forms the recognizable capitonné does not deviate from the original and innovative idea of the system of hooks, cables and rings conceived by Bellini in 1970.
Infinite modularity and modularity are the extraordinary characteristics of Camaleonda, which, thanks to its geometric nature, allows each element of the composition to refigure a large imaginary pixel through which to redefine the environment by being able to experience a sense of freedom and change as was Mario Bellini’s intention. All driven by the interplay and relationship between the straight, defined lines of the seats and the roundness and sinuosity of the upholstery.
Camaleonda’s wide choice of upholstery colors and nuances is the touch that seals the ideal of freedom in this sofa from B&B Italia: the choices are almost infinite, as are the infinite combinations it can bring to life.
Space and color: the two fundamental guidelines for defining an environment change, chase each other, combine and contaminate to define a unique, true and unrepeatable identity.
B&B Italia’s corner sofas: elegant and sophisticated solutions for rooms
Aesthetics, coatings, modularity and modularity, and above all, form. When searching for the perfect sofa to embellish a living room, these are the basic parameters that need to be taken into account depending on the space that is going to be furnished and the functions that the sofa is called upon to perform.
Among B&B Italia’s specific proposals, corner sofas certainly cover an important section of the Company’s production, always managing to play a leading role in the environments thanks to the corner structure that allows numerous spatial solutions for complete relaxation that does not give up taste and style.
Antonio Citterio has conceived and designed three corner sofas that, each in their own way, fit into the theme of modularity and composability providing different, sophisticated and elegant solutions for the most demanding environments and Clients.
Édouard, for example, is a corner sofa with a strong aesthetic and functional appeal and an invitation to sharing suggested by straight lines that wink at curves; Richard, on the other hand, in its much more classic structure, develops the theme of modularity through 76 elements, offering monochromatic or contrasting suggestions. Michel Effe is the second chapter in the story begun with its predecessor Michel: essential, profound and intense.
Édouard, sinuous welcome and sharing
Édouard, designed in 2016 by Antonio Citterio, is a corner sofa system with a strong aesthetic yet functional appeal. The structure of the sofa is assisted by juxtaposable seating elements such as end pieces, corner pieces and chaise longues that allow for the creation of dedicated relaxation areas that are well suited to both personal taste and the style of the room, thanks in part to the different heights in which the structures are available. The wide seats and generous backrests are designed for comfort, optimizing measurements, and good ergonomic support.
Upholstery comes in a wide range of fabrics and leathers in which you can experiment between fonts and customizations; in fact, it is possible to make colorful raised stitching that imprints the entire structure.
The decisive aspect of Édouard is his non-complete linearity that yields to a slight sinuosity that becomes his defining character trait. A character that suggests embracing, welcoming and sharing.
Édouard is an invitation to meet.
Richard, variations on the theme of modularity
Thanks to Richard, B&B Italia’s seating system, it is possible to configure the living space in ever-changing manners, moving from more contemporary to more classic atmospheres. The theme of modularity, on which it is possible to vary, is developed through 76 elements that play on the theme of doubles: double depths, double sizes (90 cm or 120 cm) and formal or informal solutions as needed. This compositional ease is also achieved by the extreme ease with which the elements can be hooked together and assembled: seats, benches, ottomans and chaise longues give rise to configurations that can be both convivial and very traditional.
From a structural point of view, the base has a metal profile with black chrome or pewter painted finish on which four cushions with optional sizes can be placed for the pursuit of perfect comfort.
Richard’s upholstery, available in a wide range of fabric and leather, is almost an ode to customization: you can match tone-on-tone textile profiles or dare with color contrasts, which is also possible for leather upholstery with monochromatic or contrasting solutions. Certainly, variations in which to experiment.
Antonio Citterio’s seating system in Michel Effe
In B&B Italia’s tale of corner sofas, Michel Effe by Antonio Citterio is the second chapter in the story that began with Michel, its predecessor and the first modular corner sofa in this series. The hallmark of Michel Effe is its extreme essentiality, which is revealed in its lines that, while maintaining the concept of depth unchanged, outline a new design that reveals a much simpler seat developed on a single cushion. The lines are revisited in a modern key, abandoning all that is superfluous and giving greater prominence to essential structures such as the foot and base with the simultaneous elimination of the supporting structure, which is replaced by the single cushion that does not compromise relaxation and comfort because it is of generous dimensions that blend well with the softness of the lines on which it rests. Armrest and backrest remain unchanged and joined with a simple line, which is also soft and rounded; the free-standing seat cushions come in different sizes and provide the right support for the backrest by increasing the height of the seat but decreasing the depth slightly.
With 34 elements to compose and 5 ottomans Michel Effe is yes really essential but does not give up character and customization in upholstery and compositions, writing a new history in living room furniture. Direct, unrepeatable substantial.
Sofas with chaise longue, a cozy and elegant atmosphere
Among the types of corner sofas, sofas with chaise longue definitely represent a type of model that is very successful due to its extraordinary features. Style, design and functionality are definitely the winning aspects of chaise longue sofas. Which have a history that goes way back: as early as the Greco-Roman era, the use of this ‘stretched chair’ was known to rest the body after a long day. The chaise longue continued its path then in the modern age, in France, with the so-called ‘sloping backrest’ and then established itself in the contemporary age with the English derivation called relaxation until the high design proposals of B&B Italia. The chaise longue is an element with character that really changes the look of the sofa not only from an aesthetic and spatial point of view but also from a functional one. A sofa with chaise longue takes its space within the living room by choosing depth, modularity, and shade thanks to fabric or leather covers to match the living room colors.
B&B for the type of sofas with chaise longue proposes Dock designed by Piero Lissoni, which looks like a real horizontal platform in which to place and break down the 84 elements that compose it. With SAKé, also by Lissoni, the platform becomes light and technological, cushions enclose it and feet land it in the living galaxy.
84 elements to combine for Dock by B&B Italia
Dock is truly a revolutionary system that is able to reinvent itself to reach new destinations. The system, designed by Piero Lissoni, is in fact multiple and very flexible, thanks to the presence of 84 combinable elements and the new configurations they can generate. The starting point is the platform, a horizontal platform that is the pivot of this sofa, which has a strong material presence that makes the platform become a dynamic element that dialogues with the various elements that, from time to time, are placed. Thin, uncluttered armrests, a deep, upholstered backrest, and cushions that cover multiple dimensions with which it is possible to create double-sided, angular or chaise longue-like solutions with either a more traditional or more innovative look.
There are also other service elements to be inserted between cushions to increase the dynamism and comfort of the Dock system.
In addition to the classic fabric or leather upholstery, two special upholstery having strength and material presence were also designed for Dock to increase the stability, strength and attitude of this system. Comfortable, finished upholstery creates the atmosphere of a quiet place to rest and above all, absorb the strength of materials, the inclination of character and depths that vary to eastern temperatures and then rise and seek new landings.
SAKé, first light platform and then sofa
SAKé, at first glance, immediately demonstrates its very strong contemporary connotation by following the pattern of accuracy and formal balance. Seating tops are available in three different sizes with armrests and backs that go from linear to enveloping, wonderfully well together in solutions that are pleasing to both space and personal taste.
The element that really defines the face of SAKé is the 105 x 135 cm chaise longue, which carries with it different interpretations: it can be the element in which a linear composition ends, it can be totally autonomous in the version with a wraparound back and armrest, and, combined with another chaise longue, it creates a sofa a deep seat.
The whole construction of SAKé has been marked, by Piero Lissoni, by lightness both in the details of the cushions and in the supporting bases made of crosspieces: thus SAKé seems to become a flying carpet, suspended in the air, where the cushions that make up its perimeter stand out from the feet that make it land.
But SAKé is also a unicum in the B&B Italia collection: a single bed can be created from the combination of its seating system by a simple movement of moving the seat and flipping the back with the armrests becoming the headboard.
SAKé is one poster, one way, several functions. Then it is also a sofa.
Sofa materials, to each style its own material
Whether fabric or leather, the material a sofa is upholstered in plays a key and many times underestimated role in defining the environment. Fabrics and leathers tell a lot about the history, use, and purpose of a sofa and are also a style statement. A soft fabric, such as chenille, can wrap and cuddle those sitting on the sofa in a warm feeling reminiscent of a hug. Then there are also solutions that combine aesthetics and functionality such as, for example, cotton, which provides freshness and different color textures. Because, of course, the choice of shades is something very important and indispensable: the colors must match well with the temperature of the room either by matching or standing out in tone and character. One can experiment and juxtapose different colors to achieve striking effects that never tire the observing eye.
Choosing leather for the upholstery of a sofa means moving toward a solution that never goes out of fashion and preserves, from time immemorial, all its charm. A leather sofa, at first glance, already frames the environment and the personality of the person living it. To choose leather as a sofa upholstery material is to aim for a material that combines practicality, functionality and above all aesthetics in the range of colors and types of leather to meet the needs and accompany relaxation for a very long time.
B&B Italia’s fabric sofas, true lines of color and materiality
B&B Italia has always been very attentive to the fabrics it offers in the upholstery of its sofas, going for weaves, natural or synthetic yarns, made exclusively for the Company. But not only research. The treatment of the material is also key to presenting high-quality products: in fact, fabrics are tested for abrasion, tensile and tear resistance and chafing, as well as for lightfastness and durability. The pursuit of excellence in quality is complemented by an aesthetic taste that makes these sofas almost works of art, living objects that, thanks to color and fabric, add something to the environment in which they are placed.
Between innovation and tradition, the range of upholstery available for the Naviglio sofa varies from leather to fabric in which a new bouclé with a uniform base and flamings in different colors that recall the dynamism of action painting and the chromatic chords of Impressionism stand out. Thus the sofa becomes a canvas on which to experiment with a pictorial play between light and shadow. Five variants of this new fabric are available: colors of white, gray, and taupe dialogue with each other in contrast or tone on tone.
Camaleonda is a sofa that has made versatility and endless modularity its stylistic hallmark, which can also be found in the selection of fabrics. A choice of all the fabrics in B&B Italia’s rich catalog is available. The choice is obviously dictated by comfort and the play of colors that Camaleonda’s pixels allow.
B&B Italia’s leather sofas, a material that is always new and surprising
Preserving the original and natural softness of the finest coats while bringing with it the inimitable touch characteristics of leather. This is the goal of B&B Italia, which for the leather upholstery of its sofas, chooses the quality of calves and bulls bred within the European Community to ensure the right guarantees on both the care and quality of life of the animal. It is an ethical as well as an aesthetic manifesto that is also implemented during treatment and finishing with the aim of preserving intact the peculiarities of this extraordinary raw material such as the signs of the animal’s life such as scars, insect bites, wrinkles, and shading. Leather is a valuable and natural material, not just a frill: the way it is used is therefore also synonymous with attention to detail and the pursuit of excellence.
In this sense, the high quality of the leathers chosen by B&B Italia can be seen in Diesis 40, a great classic of B&B Italia sofas and a true icon of design. In its 2019 reissue, great attention has been paid to the leather upholstery. The base and backrest are upholstered in solid leather, which is presented for the first time in the unprecedented Saffiano texture. Instead, an exclusive new leather upholstery was designed for the Diesis 40 cushions that accentuates the strength and vigor of this product but is softened by a new, softer, cozier padding. Techniques peculiar to the art of saddlery are applied in the reinforcement seams, demonstrating the great attention paid to the most authentic craftsmanship.
In Patrizia Urquiola’s 2005 Tufty-Time Leather, which seeks informality and a freedom that becomes a way of life, leather upholstery is divided into large squares as if to set different moments united, however, thanks to a perforated pleat bottom. The result is a very delicate sartorial image that, combined with the modularity of the entire system, allows you to compose corners, lines and islands in complete freedom.
