Light at the service of man and his needs: the philosophy of Artemide meets that of Sag ’80
Humanity and light, an indissoluble and eternal relationship. The search for light is an indispensable movement in human history. Light with multiple meanings and values that takes on an important role within homes. Much more than just a detail, it must put itself at the service of man and his needs. This is the philosophy that has ‘illuminated’ the path of Artemide, an all-Italian brand leader in the field in the lighting sector, with more than half a century of history behind it, in its continuous research and confrontation between tradition and innovation, present and past in the light of the future. It is from his motto “The Human and Responsible Light ,” in the moments of light needed in the life of every human being, that creations that have become true design icons are born.
Among them is Ettore Sottsass’s Callimaco, dated 1982, which has entered design history and has no intention of leaving it. A lamp that tells a dialogue between modernity and the past, and a successful expression of theencounter between lighting and design, characteristics inherent in Artemide’s DNA.
And it is on these suggestions that Sag ’80’s search for brands is grafted. Beauty and functionality that carry a clear message, a revolution in the conception of the home and its furnishings. Here, too, a very powerful meeting of philosophies: on the one hand Artemide, its languages made of light and experimentation, on the other Sag ’80, which, of the search for perfect solutions, has made its most important challenge.
The use of LED light to create atmosphere
LED lighting has now firmly entered the interior of home design, opening up new scenarios. Indeed, thanks to this extraordinary technology, it is possible to create ‘special effects’ in every corner because light is able to change the face, and perhaps even the fate, of the area it illuminates. In this sense, LED technology offers a myriad of solutions and a new awareness: to have good lighting inside the home, it is no longer enough to just choose a good chandelier! With LED you can play with the intensity of light, now more powerful, now almost imperceptible, in the eternal struggle between warm and cool colors. Enveloping the one, functional the other. For example, in the work area in the kitchen it is recommended to have bright, sharp, shadowless lights, while the living room lends itself well to the interaction of multiple lighting points that create the right balance of relaxation, aesthetics, and functionality.
The argument is sharply reversed with regard to bedroom lighting, which should not be treated like other rooms. It is the most intimate area of the home and, more than any other, should be warm and cozy from waking up until the last thought before going to sleep. It is no longer time for a single point of light to dazzle the eyes, and thanks to LED technology, you can adjust the intensity of the light: from a brighter to a much softer one so as not to tire the eyes and pamper them throughout the day.
Of course, in addition to all these benefits, there is also renewed sustainability in the long life of the devices and the energy savings they provide.
Indirect light and minimal design: The Callimaco never goes out of style
Callimachus. Already the name of the Greek poet is a premise of style that competes with eternity.
In the case of Artemide, Callimaco is the splendid floor lamp created in 1982 by the great designer Ettore Sottsass. It features a painted steel base and diffuser, the aluminum stem also painted, and a polished chrome metal handle.
At first glance it may look like a sculpture, almost ambiguous, rather than a lamp. But bringing the eye closer reveals itself as a sophisticated floor lamp, a light that starts from the ground and plays between brass, copper and steel with the handle on the side. The Callimaco is also ironic: the small umbrella on the top of it makes it not a classical lamp but an object with an eye toward the future, a post-modernism guessed at.
That may be why, after nearly four decades, it is still a must-have item for design connoisseurs.
He can stand out, with humor and discretion.
