The couture style of Minotti seating

Minotti chairs, the perfect mix of comfort and timeless style

Clean, sharp, yet sinuous lines combine with precious, refined materials capable of giving a contemporary touch to seating that winks at thevintage legacy of the golden years of design. Today’s chairs, whether used in the home or in contract settings, have a sophisticated allure, born of the combination of textures, fine woods and metal, and welcoming shapes that seem to envelop those who sit in them in a comfortable embrace.

Versatile and designed to furnish spaces both inside the home and outside, they are often the result of innovation and craftsmanship savoir-faire, just like those produced by Minotti, a symbolic Made in Italy company that for more than 70 years has been creating design masterpieces that blend craftsmanship, tradition and aesthetic sobriety. No detail is left to chance.

Minotti’s chairs all have the characteristic of being born for the interior, for living, to then be declined for the outdoors and for contexts such as the restaurant industry, which demands to combine elegance, comfort, functionality, and space-saving solutions.

Lido, the seat with an enveloping and sculptural design

Lido is a design jewel born from the inspiration of an Italian-Danish creative couple who put together their own stylistic melting pot. In fact, the line was designed by Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi, of the Copenhagen architecture firm GamFratesi, who express their roots in these seats in the perfect fusion of tradition and innovation, craftsmanship and technology, rigor and poetry.

The two draw on the Danish craft tradition and the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach, resulting in a highly successful mix that also reinterprets, in a sophisticated way, Scandinavian minimalism, loading it with more sophisticated content. For Lido, made for Minotti, the challenge is to interpret the same design for different settings, indoor and outdoor.

It is primarily the technology and the materials with which they are made that define their purpose.

For the indoor line, it is presented as a comfortable basket-shaped nest, with a round plan seat and a sculptural ‘X’ base. The design is inspired by the 1950s and is expressed in a seat with a continuous, enveloping curved line defining the upholstered shell, reminiscent of the stylistic signs typical of Brutalist architecture, made more comfortable by the presence of cushions.

The outdoor version, which has a bronze-painted stainless steel back frame and is upholstered with polypropylene cords in the traditional colors dark brown and sand or brighter colors such as cedar, blue and petrol, offers a formal seat, which takes more depth to become a bergère, drawing a soft niche. A real invitation to unwind in a more intimate and relaxed way.

Belt, classic forms and weaves for chair designed by architect Rodolfo Dordoni

When the rationalist architect Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Belt collection for Minotti , he had as an inspirational motif the idea of a belt that outlines the profile of the shell, wrapping around it, and then interrupting and closing at the front of the seat.

Specifically, in the leather version, the ribbon is sewn onto a sailcloth to give it a consistent core and thickness: it is applied to the upholstery like a belt on a dress and requires very sophisticated workmanship to follow the curved pattern of the seat and keep the visible seams perfectly straight and even. A “belt” band outlines the profile of the shell, characterizing its design; with leather upholstery, the “belt” package will always be made with bands, using the same technique used for luggage and fine leather bags, joined together by means of accurate hand-finished stitching.

The seat shell cover is made by assembling the various fabric parts with the help of grosgrain webbing, the color of which is at the company’s discretion; in the leather version, it is in the same leather provided for the upholstery. At the lower ends of the seat only placed two zippers that facilitate removability.

Torii, lightness and contamination made in Japan

Originally designed, in 2020, forindoor use, Torii then migrated into outdoor living and hospitality environments. Conceived by Japanese designer Oki Sato, founder of the Nendo studio, it plays with the roundness of volumes, the lightness of thicknesses, and the apparent formal simplicity of Japanese-inspired design.

Designed to meet needs such as functionality and ergonomics, Torii, has a perfect circle back with sophisticated visual lightness that accommodates the upholstered seat. A poetic and precious touch Sato gives to this collection that emphasizes the haute couture approach in Minotti’s tailoring.

On the natural teak or dark brown stained mahogany base, held up by aluminum legs painted in a bronze-colored anti-touch gloss finish, rests the backrest’s painted tubular steel frame, woven in rope, in the two colors écru and dark brown, with a design inspired by Vienna straw, but with a wider mesh.
