Timeless is the result of the dialogue between 12 different Italian companies, including Riva 1920, who were able to collaborate with each other by providing their expertise to create a table that, as explained by the meaning of the translated name, is simply timeless.
What makes it so are the choices regarding design, materials and of course the clock present in the center of the top, unique features that make
Timeless the most expensive table in the world
, with a price tag approaching two million euros. Moreover, we are talking about a collector’s piece, produced in a very limited number of examples, each of which represents a concentration of Italian craftsmanship.
WOOD CONCEPT AND INSPIRATION
Riva 1920’s signature on the Timeless table could not be more special: in fact, the Cantù-based company is the author of the top made of Kauri, a millennia-old wood that originates from the forests of New Zealand and possesses a uniquely fascinating history.
The Kauri forests were flooded with water and mud, following a series of natural disasters, at the end of the last ice age, or about 50,000 years ago. This layer actually acted as a “protection” for the overwhelmed plants, which for tens of thousands of years remained perfectly preserved due to the absence of oxygen, which eventually halted the processes of decomposition and petrification. Thus, Riva 1920 was a able to rediscover a material obtained from what are real wood mines still hidden in the ground, using Kauri, perfectly intact as if it were still cut, to make the 5-meter top complete with resin inserts.
Timeless, however, is above all harmony three of its components, as is also clear from the words of Massimo Riva himself, now at the helm of the company of the same name, according to whom “the idea behind this project was to try to involve a number of entrepreneurial friends united in the same shared intent.”
In this way, the Kauri top manages to dialogue perfectly with the base conceived by artist Helidon Xhixha and made of a unique mix of white marble, sourced from Henraux’s Cervaiole Quarry, and stainless steel, hand-carved using a cold-working technique.
Adding to this skillful combination of materials is an internal LED band, capable of enhancing the marriage of marble and steel even more with a special luminous effect, and of course the clock set in the center of the table, the result of years of research by the prestigious Como-based company La Vallée and equipped with the innovative M30TP visible mechanism, which incorporates a perpetual calendar designed with a revolutionary mechanism by traditional watchmaking standards, without the help of electronics.
Features that all together explain why the list price of the Timeless table is 1,890,000.
OTHER FAMOUS WORKS IN THE WORLD OF RIVA 1920
However, the experience and wisdom of Riva 1920 cannot be encapsulated only in the Timeless table, unique as it is.
Indeed, there are other works that highlight the mastery of the Cantur-based company, such as the Blow seat paired with Timeless, made of Murano crystal and designed by architect Marco Piva to add another touch of light, as well as magic, to the table itself.
Also noteworthy is Fire, a line of sideboards and tables of different sizes that share a special distinguishing feature, however, which is the use of Briccola wood, taken from the very famous poles “planted” in the Venetian lagoon sand, where they are used for boat moorings, and then recovered for use in the making of furniture, in which the fascinating texture of the material created as a result of the processing of natural organisms over time is visible.
Wood is also the protagonist of the All Around seating collection, obtained through the processing of log sections, which are given functional forms that create a connection with the user thanks also to the tactile sensations offered, helping to establish a close link between man and nature.
